Parrot Island's Own 100% Organic Bird Breads: Apple Cinnamon
Not only is this a treat that birds love - it is also an excellent way to get a great mixture of high nutritional value grains, Apples and Raisins (a healthy, sweet treat for birds) into your bird(s)! You can also add any supplements you may be giving Sunshine Factor Red Palm Oil for example - or other high Vitamin A vegetables - for those birds that might be finicky about eating them on their own.
We mix and package these breads ourselves. They are mixed up FRESH every 7 to 10 days - then they are placed in Freezer-Grade Ziploc Bags with Fresh Seal - then DOUBLE Bagged in a second one to insure the best nutrition and freshness! - Try it - you can see, smell and taste the difference!
You get enough to make a 9 x 13 inch pan. Just add water, eggs and bake!
YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE 1 CUP OF APPLE JUICE OR OTHER UNSWEETENED FRUIT JUICE (preferably organic) FOR 1 OF THE CUPS OF WATER TO SWEETEN IT FURTHER IF DESIRED.
An excellent, easy to make (see specific directions in photo at right) nutritious treat for your companion bird! In about 1/2 hour you can make enough to last your bird(s) for up to several weeks (if frozen). We freeze what we will not use in a few days. We cut the bread into 1" cubes and freeze them in freezer-grade Ziplocs.
Our birds love all of these mixes - from our largest (our adopted Hyacinth Macaw, Mateo) to our smallest (Spencer, as of 7/09 he is 19 years old!) Canary.
Take a look at the pictures at right where you will see Merlin (19 years old as of 09/09) enjoying some of the Apple Cinnamon Bread - I would not suggest trying to take it away from him :)!
